Memorial Meeting of Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy & Inauguration of Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy Library

A grand memorial meeting of CPI’s former National General Secretary and former Member of Parliament, Com. Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy was held on Monday at the Indrajit Gupta Hall, Neelam Rajasekhara Reddy Research Centre, under the aegis of Chandra Rajeshwar Rao Foundation (CR Foundation), Kondapur. The meeting was presided over by Dr. K. Narayana, National Secretary, CPI and Honorary President of CR Foundation. The Chief Guest, Dr. Riyaz, Chairman of the Telangana State Library Parishad inaugurated the Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy Library set up in the Research Centre. The library logo
was unveiled by Prof. Avula Manjulata, former Vice Chancellor of Potti Sriramulu Telugu University. Dr. Riyaz stated that CPI would always occupy a special place in the history of the Telangana movement, and the contributions of Com. Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy were unforgettable. He described the inauguration of the library in Sudhakar Reddy’s name as a milestone and a cherished moment in his life. He recalled his early student days influenced by CPI leaders like Nallamalla Giriprasad, and shared his admiration for Soviet
literature that inspired generations of progressive youth. He stressed that the collapse of the Soviet Union was a tragedy for global progressive movements. He urged CPI to take the responsibility of uniting progressive writers and cultural organizations to counter rising communalism. He also called for Left student organizations to come together under a joint platform to strengthen struggles. Dr. K. Narayana, in his presidential address, hailed Sudhakar Reddy as an ideal Communist leader, deeply involved not only in
Indian politics but also in international student and youth movements. He said Sudhakar Reddy was gentle in personality but uncompromising on ideological clarity. Muppalla Nageswara Rao, President of CR Foundation, praised Sudhakar Reddy as a “treasure of knowledge” who could speak scientifically and factually on any subject, inspiring thousands to embrace Communism. Palla Venkat Reddy, General
Secretary of CR Foundation, described Sudhakar Reddy as a “living open book”, a humanist who connected with all, and a crusader against corruption as an MP. He highlighted Sudhakar Reddy’s instrumental role in shaping the National Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGA) which continues to provide livelihood to
millions across India. Pasya Padma, CPI National Executive Member, emphasized his tireless efforts in building people’s movements and organizations, describing him as one of the tallest leaders of CPI’s second generation. Dr. B.V. Vijayalakshmi, wife of Sudhakar Reddy, expressed her happiness that a library was established in his name. She said her late husband firmly believed that people’s problems could only be
solved through people’s movements. Several dignitaries including Kalpana, Dr. Pratibha, Dr. Rajani, ABK Prasad, Narsa Reddy, Poornachandra Rao, Chandrakant, Tammareddy Bharadwaj, Ramesh Babu, Avula Manjulata recalled their association with Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy. Foundation members Prema Pavani, Palla Vijaya, Usharani, Lalitha, Vanka Lakshmi, Krishna Kumari, Jagan, Kondayya, Prof. Anjaih and many others participated.
