80th Independence Day Celebrations at C.R. Foundation, Kondapur

Protect the Constitution, Democracy and Secularism by Upholding the Spirit of Independence: Dr. K. Narayana

The 80th Independence Day celebrations were held in a grand manner at the Chandra Rajeshwara Rao Foundation (C.R. Foundation) in Kondapur, Hyderabad, on Saturday.

On the occasion, Dr. K. Narayana, Honorary President of C.R. Foundation, unfurled the Tricolour at the Foundation premises.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. K. Narayana said that India won its independence after years of struggle and immense sacrifices by countless freedom fighters. Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Alluri Sitarama Raju and many others played a direct and courageous role in the freedom struggle and made supreme sacrifices for the country. He recalled that Chandra Rajeshwara Rao also participated in the freedom movement.

He said that, even after 80 years of independence, the country needs to take firm and determined steps to fulfil the ideals for which freedom was achieved and for which so many people sacrificed their lives.

India is a great country blessed with fertile land, abundant natural resources and hardworking farmers, workers, intellectuals and skilled people in every field, he said. If the country’s resources are utilised properly and equitably, there is no reason why any person in India should remain hungry or deprived of basic necessities. Achieving this goal must remain a national priority, he added.

Dr. Narayana said that the people of India fought hard to win independence and subsequently gave themselves a Constitution based on the ideals enshrined in its Preamble. However, he expressed concern that the Constitution and democracy are facing serious challenges and that the principle of secularism is also under threat.

He stressed the need to confront these challenges and ensure that the fruits of independence reach every section of society. He called upon everyone to work collectively to safeguard the Constitution, democracy, secularism and national unity, and to uphold the values for which the freedom struggle was fought.

C.R. Foundation Secretary Chennamaneni Venkateswara Rao, C.R. Poly Clinic Director Dr. Koonamneni Rajini, Women Welfare Centre Director Joshyabhatla Kalpana, member V. Lalitha, Old Age Home Advisory Committee members Mallampati Venkateswara Rao, Rajendra Rao, Tammareddy Tanya Kumari, Aidu Kallu Aruna and Veluvolu Sambasiva Rao, Manager Srinivas, residents of the Old Age Home, students of the vocational training courses conducted by the Women Welfare Centre and others participated in the celebrations.

C.R. Foundation Treasurer and Old Age Home Director V. Chennakeshava Rao conducted the programme. C.R. Poly Clinic Director Dr. Koonamneni Rajini proposed the vote of thanks.

On the occasion, students of the vocational training courses of the Women Welfare Centre rendered patriotic songs, adding to the spirit and enthusiasm of the Independence Day celebrations.
